| He first became an officer in 1989, when he joined the Metropolitan Police, where he performed a variety of roles, which included serving in the elite Specialist Firearms Command. In 2002, as an Inspector, he transferred to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (formerly the Royal Ulster Constabulary), where he served in both North Belfast and Newtownabbey. He joined Thames Valley Police in February this year working in a department set up to deal with animal rights issues across the force.
