| Superintendent Chris Shead has taken up the role of Commander
for West Berkshire Local Police Area. |
| |
| He first became an officer in 1989, when he joined the
Metropolitan Police, where he performed a variety of roles, which
included serving in the elite Specialist Firearms Command. In
2002, as an Inspector, he transferred to the Police Service of
Northern Ireland (formerly the Royal Ulster Constabulary), where
he served in both North Belfast and Newtownabbey. He joined
Thames Valley Police in February this year working in a
department set up to deal with animal rights issues across the
force. |

| The married, 41-year-old father of one, said: "My main
priority is to reduce crime, focusing on criminal damage,
burglary and auto crime and to continue to roll out neighbourhood
policing by recruiting more police community support officers
across the area. |
| |
| "I'm new to the area and can perhaps bring a degree of
objectivity . . . you can, perhaps, see something that people,
who have been here quite some time, can not. |
| |
| I want a renewed focus and drive - but, having said that,
it's important not to under-estimate the amount of effort put
into policing West Berkshire in the recent past. |
| |
| "I have a strong operational background and I hope to use
this experience to improve our performance and to continue to
make West Berkshire a safe place to live work and visit." |
