PANGBOURNE COMMUNITY POLICING
|
| POLICE COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICER |
|
| |
| PCSO Marie Moloney works on the Pangbourne Neighbourhood Team
having taken up the role in June. |
| |
| She said "I joined Thames Valley Police after being a jailer
at Reading Custody. |
| |
| "Most of my working career I have worked in an office
environment as an administrator. |
| |
| "At the beginning of training I was really unsure that I
could be a PCSO. You know what it's like - you work in the same
job for a couple of years and you can't imagine doing something
so new, you're out of your safety net aren't you? |
| |
| "The training was really interesting and had overviews of
each department of the police force and you really don't realise
how much work is put into policing. After all the training and
joining the team in Pangbourne police station I realised there
was nothing for me to have been nervous about. |
| |
| "My tutor and team members have made so welcome and if I ever
needed advice about the role or anything I can ask without
feeling silly. Everyone has been the new person and is very
understanding." |
| |
| PCSO Moloney believes that one of the main attractions of the
job is the varied nature of the work. |
| |
| She said: "The role of a PCSO is something unique and you
never know what is going to happen each day. I interact with all
different members of the community and have a fantastic time
making a difference to a lot of people. |
| |
| "When I am asked about being a PCSO in the community I feel I
am a walking advertisement for the role. |
| |
| "A lot of people ask me what I do and how do I like the role.
If you can imagine one moment you could be having tea with the WI
Ladies from Pangbourne and the next listening to MC Battles with
the kids in the park. Days like that I just think "I get paid for
this", it's such a pleasure. |
| |
| "The best thing is knowing your community. All the local kids
shout hello to me and are not fazed about telling me things that
are going on the area. Sometimes I think: "If your mum and dad
were here now!" - they would blush at the stuff they come and
tell me. |
| |
| "On a serious note the best tip I can give you if your
thinking about becoming a PCSO come and speak to us and have a
look in what we do." |
