I suspect that very few users of the so-called train services to and from Pangbourne have escaped unscathed from the appalling service which we continue to suffer, with minor timetable changes since May not helping!. Obviously the situation has been exasperated by lightening strikes and rain (or extensive Network Rail maintenance), but essentially First Great Western's punctuality, reliability and overcrowding levels are not good! At the time of writing this update, I have not seen the new timetables being finalised for December 2007 but will continue to press for visibility and improvements. What is clear is the need to continue making our voices heard following our February petition, however futile this may feel at present - every little helps to ensure to show that Pangbourne and surrounding area use the service and need this to be improved. If there is no sign of improvements shortly, we may need to submit another petition, so watch this space!
As a user of train services to and from Pangbourne, I want to
register my concern about the changes to services from 10th
December 2006, in particular the reduction in the number of
peak-time semi-fast services to and from London Paddington but
also the associated issues of over-crowding, punctuality,
reliability, the lack of a suitable 'post-theatre' train back
from London and generally poor communications, especially at
weekends and during evening engineering works.
